INTRODUCTION
In Fall of 2023, I joined the User Experience Student Group for the SJSU Information School. I began as the Social Media Coordinator, but found that it wasn’t a perfect fit.
There was an additional opening for a Web Coordinator that was not being filled, and I had already by this point made the logo and come up with the abbreviation “UXSG”.

METHODOLOGY
I sketched some concept ideas for the logo, which my peers on the executive committee for the group gladly approved, and from there I worked on the logo for several iterations until I came up with the above final product.
The colors changed a few times, as I was looking for something that would connect us to the school’s colors but also be safe for the web and high contrast.

WEBSITE OVERHAUL
As Web Coordinator for the group, I was immediately informed that there were multiple issues with the site’s usability as the original WordPress theme (Neve) was very difficult to edit.
I thus completely started the site over from scratch, using the new logo as an anchor for the rest of the design.
If I could make future improvements, I would change the theme once again to be more accessible than the one that I originally chose (Ashe).

VISION & INSPIRATION
Much of my original work for this project was based on the input from the first meeting I attended for UXSG, which involved doing a user survey about the website itself.
I was quite actively involved in this process, and it was then that I realized that I wanted to be more involved in the group in a higher capacity.
ACCESSIBILITY
The primary focus of my interest in UX involves web accessibility for all, whether they be disabled or able-bodied, neurodivergent, or allistic. Everyone should have equal access to the web, and I find it to be my personal mission to make it so.

WEBSITE LOCATION
UXSG is currently transitioning to a new executive committee as many of us are graduating or are already in the process of doing so.
I would like to stress that the next Web Coordinator may want to take this website in a different direction, as is their right.
